First, inspire your students to "think green."

Talk to your students about one or more of these challenges for the Earth.

• What does "Green—Earth's Favorite Color" mean to them?
• What are renewable energy sources, and how can we use them today?
• What is a carbon footprint, and how do we affect our environment?
• How can they be a “hero” for the planet?

Second, discover and create.

• Ask groups to elaborate on the topics: reuse, renew, recycle. Discuss conservation and environmental awareness. Share discoveries to inspire new ideas and inventions.
• Students record their "green" stories, opinions and ideas in journals. Inspire your students with green eco-friendly design. Bring in objects that are recyclable, innovative and fuel efficient. Display images of sustainable communities, farms, and households.
• Make quick sketches of new concepts and designs.
• Create 2-D or 3-D artwork that is inspired by the Green Movement. Encourage your students to design and create individual artwork or collaborative group projects supporting a "green world" theme.
• Students craft a three- to five-sentence statement to reflect their story, opinion or idea.

• Take a picture of your students' work with a digital camera (hi-resolution jpeg, 300 dpi). See more detailed information on how to take the picture.

• Entries will be juried and chosen for publication in a beautiful hardcover book and to win great cash prizes!

All artwork must be received by 11/1/08 to qualify. Selected artwork will be featured in a Crayola hardcover book to be published in March 2009.
